I consider cosplay (“costume/play” to the uninitiated!) to be an art form. Whether a person chooses to copy a costume as accurately as possible or to put their own creative spin on it, the craftsmanship and dedication involved in seeing such a project to fruition is impressive. The end result is worth it though. Not only do you get to look amazing all day, walking around as an awesome fusion of your favorite character and yourself, you get to see the joy that your art has brought to others. My sister and I both say that half the fun of going to conventions like Wondercon is seeing all the awesome cosplays. You never know what you’re going to find.
You could spot a beloved character from the latest smash hit…
Or cute cosplays from a goofy, imaginative cartoon.
Hybrids are always a delight…
And somehow cosplays find a way to bring some humor to even the darkest events.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the cosplay apart from the original character.
It’s amazing the amount of detail which people include to embody their characters, from full body paint…
To a good coating of dirt.
You see characters who range from delightfully sassy…
To deathly cool.
People show up in the latest rendition of a beloved classic.
You see characters from popular indie productions….
Legendary villains…
And baddies who we all love to hate.
Some cosplays are sweet…
While others are terrifying.
No matter the fandom though…
There’s always something new and exciting to be found in cosplay.
Be sure to check out last week’s article on Wondercon for more great cosplay pics!
