On a snowy Chicago day in April (!) I was fortunate to stumble into a timely exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), “Run for President“, by Kathryn Andrews.
Being from Southern California, the snow flurries still hold an amazing charm!
Once I could tear myself away from the windows, the huge wall announcing Kathryn Andrews’ special exhibit at MCA loomed large and peaked my curiosity.
Once you look at the photos here, let me know if it makes sense to you as it does to me that the artist is from Los Angeles, beloved home of Hollywood & Disneyland!
BAM!! Wait – what is going on here? Is that Bozo? Is that a secret service officer? With a big, red clown nose on? A huge black & white image with metal Bozo sculptures in front of it makes an instant and easily graspable point, considering the exhibit’s name!
I pity the fool! Check out Mrs. Reagan! And what’s all that color behind the giant black and white images?
Captain Crunch? So, someone who looks “official” (the hat!!), tastes sweet, but ultimately is full of calorie-laden air? A politician??? He looks worried here….
How about these…blasting off from the White House…
Full of symbolism, mixing commercialism and politics…the colors are beautiful but the kings throne is made of skulls….
“The bird to bet on….”
Next comes a sort of “wall of (sh/f)ame)”:
Such a circus atmosphere in this Presidential election -makes me sad too..
The details are found upon closer look…
A huge curved image of the Oval Office, the ultimate goal of a Presidential Election! But look out when you look into the metal cylinder! You may want to duck!
And finally, as Journey sang, “The Party’s Over“…
