Originating in Southern California, Culture Honey is an online magazine that believes Culture and Exploration bring us Together and bring us to Life. As we journey, travel, explore and participate in the beautiful culture of the world, we also believe that a blind eye cannot be turned to issues of deep pain and the suffering of humanity.
While we are pulling out all the stops here in America to celebrate the Christian holiday marking the birth of Christ, it is our hope that these photos of Syrian mothers and their children from the very recent weeks and months of 2015 will harken back to the many beautiful and classic images that we are used to seeing at Christmastime. The images strung together here are our “Christmas card” to the world. These mothers with their children call to our minds another family from 2,000 years ago. This family was away from home and seeking shelter and care during one of life’s most vulnerable moments: the time of a new mother giving birth to her firstborn child.
Will we make room in our hearts for these little ones, for their parents seeking shelter, dignity, community, and abundant Life? It is our prayer at Culture Honey that our unified, resounding answer will be, “YES, how can we not??” While the “how” of the equation may look complex, we believe that the simplicity of a resounding “YES” must be our starting point!
In a spirit of openness to background, faith, and hope, please accept Culture Honey’s wishes for a peaceful holiday season and a year filled with compassion and wonder in 2016.
