If you’ve visited Lucerne, you already know that it is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. If you drive another 30 – 40 mins south, you will come into a pristine valley surrounded by alps called Flüeli-Ranft! And in this lovely valley, it is hard to miss the historic landmark Hotel Paxmontana, which perches on the edge of a canyon like a beacon of Swiss hospitality!
The Kurhaus Nünalphorn, (renamed in 1966 as Hotel Paxmontana) was built by a local hotel pioneer in 1896. An amazing example of the Germanic art nouveau style, the hotel’s most recent renovation was completed in 2011.
The original builder, Franz Hess-Michel, laid a broad network of walking trails and produced his own excursion maps for the surrounding area. The hotel had its own cricket pitch and tennis court, an open-air gymnasium and a walking space. Health & fitness was a value, even back then!
Just like the Swiss neighbors France, Germany and Italy, Switzerland produces is local wines. Here are some vines growing above a picturesque trellis…
Why not lunch or order a small bite with friends out in the sunshine in view of all this glory? The Restaurant Veranda offers a breath-taking view of the Sarneraa Valley and the Glaubenberg…
Here’s a close-up, very nice : )
Then it’s around to the front of the hotel for more creation gazing…
What a lovely town…
A fond farewell, with a high recommendation for travelers and hopes of seeing a snow-covered Paxmontana in the not-too-distant future…
