Unique Forward Original (UFO) hosted their inaugural Pop-Up at a brand new gallery space in the heart of Hollywood on Friday, December 18, 2015. Featuring cutting edge fashion pieces from around the globe, forward thinking household accessories, and an interactive video installation and immersive virtual gallery, Linda (Peaches) Tavani participated in the experience on behalf of Culture Honey and shares her thoughts below!
“I was very in tune at this evening’s event in Hollywood, featuring a group of up-and-coming young international clothes designers. Their pieces all have a new, global consciousness, an organic, urban style that covers every occasion – any time of day or year.” – Linda Tavani
The night brought Culture Honey’s second encounter with Lu La Loop from London. The first contact was during Paris Fashion Week, as shared in Aurore Rominger’s Culture Honey piece from last fall.
“The future in style awareness should be celebrating art and freedom, and bursting with creativity in the most comfortable forecast possible. I loved the outfits from every culture. There were African Royal garments in vibrant shades and fabrics; futuristic materials used in triangular shapes, alternative materials used in strappy, bulky shoes, and somehow the homeless were a celebrated topic for one designer! Also, the smock is making a comeback! The creativity displayed at this pop-up is the type that keeps life from becoming boring or predictable!” – Linda
“Another designer mixed the best of grandmother’s handmade woolen knit throw blankets, yet very Rodeo drive. Wow!” – Linda
Look for actor Lejon O. Stewart (best known at “LeJon, the Black Pearl Pirate” in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest) in the upcoming film, Cardboard Boxer, set to premiere in Spring 2016. The relaxed atmosphere of this first UFO Pop-Up was filled with unique sights, sounds and textures, and fostered new connections as well.
The Lady Gonzalez homeware pieces seemed right at home in the modern, minimalist space.
The cupcakes were provided by The Confection Co-Op, and were delicious!
Another impressive component of the night was a 3D, interactive virtual reality exhibit, ‘THREE²’ x ‘3P2: VR’. Visitors put on the headset and through technical, visual and audio elements were transported into a world of abstract moving images, described as “surreal hyperreal – a realm just beyond the ‘natural’ state.” This installation was a collaboration between Kate Parsons, a video artist based in L.A., and Ben Vance, a creator at Buffalo Vision. The audio design for the installation was contributed by Miguel De Pedro, aka Kid606.
