Where do you go when it’s 89 degrees in Pasadena (on Feb. 15th!) and you need to celebrate a significant life occurrence like getting into the grad school of your choice? Well, after a hot pizza in air-conditioning, how about heading over to Afters Ice Cream? That’s what we did today, and we could tell by the line we weren’t the only ones thinking this way!
Afters Ice Cream is a specialty ice cream shop located at 1265 Green St. in Pasadena, just west of Hill Ave. and Pasadena City College. They are known for their own invention of combining a warm, glazed, sugar donut with delicious ice cream (and choice of toppings) called a “Milky Bun”! The Pasadena location opened in December of 2015. Read more on the inspirational story of Afters Ice Cream here…
The location itself is cool, a Pasadena landmark actually, as a little sign above the service window states. The buildings here used to house an old “filling” station (read “gas station”, youngsters)! Here’s a closeup of one of the three old filling pumps that give the atmosphere a new/old ambiance!
With a menu that offers ice cream flavors as diverse as “Jasmine Milk Tea” and “Vietnamese Coffee”, trust us, your biggest dilemma will be which to choose!
Prices are not too extravagant (think a Starbucks specialty drink), with one scoop costing $4, two scoops $6 and three scoops $7. The famous Milky Bun with one topping costs $6, and as we looked around it was by far the most popular order!
As the sun began to consider setting, we enjoyed the early evening in Pasadena with those who were drawn like we were to a delicious, original treat!
Even our simple Cookie Monster flavor was tasty enough to bring us back again – especially with the warm, golden rays of summer looming ahead in So. Cal.!
