Nestled in the southwest of Germany on the edge of the famed Black Forest, and known as one of the sunniest spots in Germany, Freiburg is a place where thousands of people drive, take the train and otherwise find their way to enjoy a couple of relaxing days. Lying in a secluded, wine-rich corner of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, Freiburg is known for good weather and vineyards and is a desirable place to visit or indeed to live. Also, due to its geography (a border triangle of Germany, France, and Switzerland) and being fairly removed from any larger German cities, locals will frequently go shopping in France and Switzerland for their respective native products and go to museums and theaters in Basel or Zürich. The feeling in the air is relaxed, carefree, multicultural and welcoming.
The beautiful Gothic cathedral Freiburg Minster towers over the central square Münsterplatz.
The lovely selection of restaurants and cafes give visitors an awesome view of the cathedral, as well as an opportunity to try a new dish and rest tired feet!
Charming cobblestone streets with tempting shops entice visitors to count and then spend their euros : )
How about a market with fruits, veggies and a colorful array of culinary options? Locals know where to go!
Freiburg is also home to one of Germany’s oldest universities, Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. I love the accompanying youthful presence that adds to the city’s overall atmosphere and energy.
Don’t forget breakfast! Choose a charming cafe for delicious baked goods and engaging views.
Backerei Cafe is a good choice!
Baked fresh daily, no need to worry about finding a good breakfast!
Shop, sight-see, but by all means spend a day or two and soak up the relaxed, beautiful atmosphere of Freiburg!
