One balmy Southern California weekend in July, I had the opportunity to explore an eminent garden center in Los Angeles called Rolling Greens. I had learned about this comprehensive, family-owned garden center from their smaller shop in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles. But it is the larger flagship center in Culver City is where our afternoon was spent, and these photographs were taken.
According to their site, the Culture City location boasts 3 levels, 6 greenhouses, over 1.5 acres of nursery! Offering the largest pottery + container collection in the Greater Los Angeles area, spending an hour or two perusing the natural and artistically made beauty is a real pleasure.
There are flowers and plants artfully arranged and all available for purchase, some integrated in beguiling fashion in the nursery’s outdoor spaces, and some hosted inside for those seeking to add the benefit of soothing greenery to interior spaces.
Here are a selection of orchids…
But I have to say the stars of the show for me were the pottery. Beautiful terracotta pottery in every shade and shape.
From the terracotta pots and planters in every shade and shape…
To beautifully glazed and treated pots for every conceivable modern outdoor decor. And the pallets are so varied and unique, they inspire while providing opportunity to indulge one’s love of growing things…
These two beauties were imported from Europe and come with a price tag as large as their capacity!
Once one senses the exploration of the outdoor spaces are complete, the interior offerings beckon. The colorful displays of interior pottery offer charm and inspiration of their own.
I couldn’t help but think of the current mid-century modern decorating craze that we’re in the middle of with these…
And then to turn basket-like planters to lighting, unique finds abound.
The choices are endless…
And Rolling Greens offers consulting as well, available at all five of their Southern California locations. With their lovely showrooms, it isn’t hard to imagine how creativity will be fostered!
All in all, I enjoyed the visit to the nursery immensely and definitely plan to travel back to one or more of the stores when we are ready to landscape the outdoor space of our new home in Pasadena!
