Ok, so this isn’t really specific to London, but I’m going to go with it anyway.
There is a bus that travels around this beautiful country. It’s purple. But that’s not what’s so cool about it (though that is pretty cool). What’s cool about this bus is that it travels around the country to different communities, raising awareness and support for deaf children around the UK.
Did you know that four babies are born deaf every day? According to the National Deaf Children’s Society (the people who run the purple bus), there are over 45,000 deaf children in Britain.
That’s a lot.
So when you’re travelling around London, or the rest of the UK, and you see a big purple bus, wave. It’s probably on its way to or from a school or organisation that is eager to learn more about helping those who can’t hear or who can only partially hear.
Oh, and in some of the big cities around this country, there are people in the city centres with purple shirts on asking for a moment of your time. Yeah, I must confess I don’t really enjoy it when people do that either. But I just have to get over myself. If you see them and they ask you for a minute of your time, give it to them if you can. What’s the worst that could happen?
