There is no argument (at least in my mind) that the scenic Pacific coast of California is one of the most beautiful in the world! Yet what is one to do if Santa Barbara to Pismo to Carmel prices are out of the budget? Do you live in the Los Angles area, and would enjoy a getaway that’s accessible in under a three hour drive?
Well, with some planning ahead (7 months, actually!), and $55 dollars a night, one can reserve a tent spot at Refugio State Beach, just about 10 miles north on HWY 101 past Santa Barbara! Reservations can be made 7 months in advance on the first day of the month beginning at 8:00 A.M. PST via the website, by mail, or by calling the toll-free telephone number at 1-800-444-7275.
This is a great way for a family to enjoy the beach together and night times under the stars at a reasonable rate, although old-timers still can remember when the sites were free of charge! There are coin-operated showers, as well as toilets and water spouts located throughout the campground, and a bike-trial along the bluff with beautiful ocean vistas! Explore the official site for more specific information, and enjoy the photos from this week in late August 2015!
Palm trees silhouette the blue sky at Refugio…
Relaxed family time ensues!
I’m sure that skipped 3x!!
There was no visible evidence of the recent oil spill, just a reminder of how precious nature is and how important it is to take care of our common home, the earth!
When it’s in the 90’s and 100’s down in the L.A. area, the cool breezes and gentle surf refresh!
