I love Paris. For me, there are so many reasons to adore the City of Lights. I just read Raquel Puig’s beautiful book, Doorways to Paris. She gets to live in this magical city of history as the dawning of a new era unfolds. I too love to stroll with my husband through all the streets of Paris. I highly recommend you get a copy of this book she has photographed.

The Latin Quarter is where Hemingway ‘s books came to life on the big screen.Woodie Allen’s Midnight in Paris is a fun movie that shows wonderful views of my favorite city. I love the Louvre and the art museum district, enjoying the buildings and gazing at the details of the beautiful doors with flower pots in the windows and doorways as we stroll by. I encourage you to celebrate as many doorways of opportunity in Paris as soon as you can fit it into your life.

I have counted over two hundred intriguing doorways in Raquel’s beautiful book. The different varieties are endless, with remarkable distinction in design and beauty. There is quite a collection of these doors, powerful protectors for every one of their residents living and dwelling behind them. There are many types of doors. An opened door that welcomes visiting guests or customers into the many corner cafes, restaurants, and museums. Doors that are found on castles. Others open up to patios and boat docks in the backyards of mansions. The grand doors of Notre Dame and other churches that protect their patrons and tourists who love its many features, helping them experience the peace that still exists within.

I would say the details of the gates and colors of the doors distinguish Paris with a character all its own. Now when I am not there, I find myself comparing other city gates and doorways to Paris. In truth, there is no comparison. It’s amazing to see how many French doors inspired the designs in other cities around the world. I miss Paris when I leave. Many movies came to life on the streets of Paris behind some of these very doors. Now I realize why I long for the whole ambiance and can’t wait to go back again and again. It’s Paris!

Like Lauren Bacall said in her memoirs (she went to Paris and stayed 6 months every year until she died), nothing takes the place of being there. When the doors of opportunity open for you, don’t hesitate to go. You will see for yourself why. I promise you’ll thank me later.
